Rush 101: Outfit Guide

Welcome to Rush 101: outfits!!

Looking for life savers when preparing for each day of recruitment?? Read these and take in all the tips and tricks and you will surely breeze through the week!

Recruitment consists of four days: Philanthropy Day, Sisterhood Day, Preference Day, and of course Bid Day. In addition to recruitment week, any girls interested in recruitment can attend the Panhellenic Summer Social. I remember wanting to look perfect for each of those days! All I thought about last year when preparing for rush was, how I could use my outfits to show my personality and style without looking just like every other girl.

As Coco Chanel has said, “Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself.”

My first piece of advice is to truly be yourself in all aspects of recruitment. I took the statement by Coco Chanel to heart and decided that I would choose outfits that are comfortable, cute, and make me feel confident! Let’s face it, recruitment can seem intimidating and scary, but an outfit that gives you confidence can make all the difference.

The first event associated with recruitment is the Summer Social, this takes place in July. This event gives you the option to meet and become familiar with a few women from each organization. The summer social is very laid back compared to the rest of the recruitment process.

A cute sundress or romper would be perfect for this day! The summer social is mostly sitting, so choose an outfit that you love, even when sitting down! Again, set yourself apart from every other girl in the room. Choose fun, brightly colored earrings to add some spunk to your outfit and really show off your personality.

Philanthropy Day is the official start of the recruitment week. Before this day, your rho gam will give you a t-shirt to wear! Pair this shirt with cute patterned shorts, or a skirt that you love! Get creative when pairing this outfit with shoes and accessories! This is the longest day, just because you visit each organization and on the first day something on the schedule always gets behind, so choose some shoes that will not kill your feet- save those for later in the week!

Sisterhood is Round 2 of the week! This day is a little dressier, pull out those cute sundresses and rompers! Add some jewelry or bright shoes and you’ll be set to go. Really set yourself apart from the other girls, this day could predict the rest of your week! Your outfit should be a representation of you and be a quick conversation starter!

Round 3, the most serious day, Preference Day. This day you will pull out those shoes that are fancy, and a dress you would wear to graduation or a wedding. This should be your dressiest outfit. Give recruitment all you have this day; you will be visiting your future home for the last time until bid day- make it count!

Finally, BID DAY- BEST DAY!!! On Bid day, you will want to wear some athletic bottoms or a cute pair of denim shorts. After opening your bid, you will be given a shirt to match your organization! For shoes, wear something you can run to your forever home in! They should be supportive and comfortable- think tennis shoes, maybe even tevas would work for you.

After this run down of what you should wear, here are the takeaways for the week: Find outfits that represent YOU, for you – not who you want people to think you are. This is about finding the girls you can be 100% yourself with. Don’t choose outfits based on the hottest trend of the summer, everyone in America has seen that same dress, at the same boutique you follow on Instagram, and saved it for ideas on what to buy- you want to be original, not matching everyone in your group! Get excited about the week and showing off your style and personality, don’t be afraid to wear some funky earrings or cheetah shoes!!
