My family is from Jacksonville, so I’d been checking out JSU since I was in high school. I am a big family girl, so staying close to home was a huge plus. Campus is just 15 minutes from the house I grew up in. However, I was looking to go somewhere to pole vault on a track and field team in college, too. About 3 weeks after I had graduated from high school, I received a phone call from the track and field team at JSU.

Needless to say, I never looked back. I was so excited to start my life at a college doing what I love while staying close to home. Even though I was going to do a sport in college, going through panhellenic recruitment was definitely big on my to-do list! I wanted to find the group of girls I would spend my four years with. Seeing girls I knew that went to JSU love their sorority and talk nonstop about their journey made it a no-brainer for me to go through recruitment. I received messages from three Phi Mu girls closer to the fall, one of them being a pole vaulter on the JSU track and field team. They offered to show me around campus and where my classes were going to be. I had the best time seeing the campus and track up close, and I had such a great time getting to know such sweet girls! Summer was coming to an end faster than I wanted, and before I knew it, it was time for recruitment. Going into all of it, I was looking for girls I could be besties with and girls that would help me grow in my relationship with Christ.

Recruitment can be a scary, stressful time. For me, it was just that, but it was the BEST decision I made when it comes to my four years at Jacksonville State! Seeing those familiar faces in Phi Mu’s room made me feel SO much more comfortable. By the end of recruitment, I KNEW God was telling me exactly where my home was, annnd you guessed it-- Phi Mu!!!

I had met girls in Phi Mu’s room that I knew were going to challenge me, make me want to be a better version of myself and girls that I would make the best memories with during my college years. Not to mention that 2 of the 3 Phi Mu girls I’d met over the summer became part of my phamily (Phi Mu’s spin on the word “family”). I can truly say that as an upcoming senior looking back at all my times with my Phi Mu besties, I am full of tears because I wish I could have more time with them. Phi Mu isn’t just four years, it’s for life.

Phi Mu has given me leadership experience, and my girls have pushed me to get out of my comfort zone. I have always been an outgoing person, but Phi Mu has given me the confidence to take risks. They have pushed me to do things I thought I could never do, and they have made me want to be a better Christian. While being in Phi Mu, I have been community service chair and philanthropy director. I would have never imagined that I would have helped my sisters raise over $34,000 for our philanthropy, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, but I did it with the support of my amazing sisters. I have taken not one, but TWO littles in my time in Phi Mu and they are amazing and make me proud every day. I have a twin (my Big took two littles), and she is my diary and best friend all in one. Because of Phi Mu, I have the sweetest, most God-loving pham I could have ever hoped for. I am a God-seeking girl, so God knew exactly what he was doing when he put me in Phi Mu and in this phamily.

My favorite line of our creed reads, “To reverence God as our maker, striving to serve Him in all things”. I am so thankful for all of these opportunities that JSU has given me. I never saw myself doing a sport, extracurricular activities and being in a sorority all while in college, but in doing these things, I have been blessed beyond measure. I wouldn’t want it ANY other way. I can’t wait to see how my senior year turns out while soaking up every moment in Phi Mu and at Jacksonville State.
